Our monthly meeting for January will take place on Monday, January 27th beginning with our Consulting Rosarian’s Corner at 6:30 p.m. followed by our speaker’s presentation at 7:00 p.m. (Please note: This is the fourth Monday of the month instead of our usual third Monday.)
This month we are honored to have our new SDRS President Robert Russell giving a PowerPoint presentation on planning a rose garden from scratch. Topics to be covered are various rose varieties, garden designs and walkways, watering and fertilizing techniques, automatic water “fertigation” and Netafim irrigation installation. (Fertigation is the process of delivering dissolved fertilizers to plants through an irrigation system. The term is a combination of fertilizer and irrigation.)
Robert and his wife, Kristine, have been involved with the San Diego Rose Society since 2013 when Robert joined at the San Diego County Fair. Robert and Kristine have been involved consistently with SDRS since 2015. They have been growing roses since 2011 starting with just two roses, one of which they still grow, ‘Kentucky Derby’. They planted their first raised rose garden in 2012 with about 15 roses. They entered their first roses at the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park event, followed by the Walter Anderson’s spring rose show. They entered their first SDRS rose show at the annual spring rose show at Liberty Station. They started showing roses at the fair in 2016, and other Southwest District rose shows. Kristine, an avid photographer and arranger, excels in earning photography and arrangement awards. They have expanded their garden to over 200 roses since creating their first garden in 2012.
Robert has been the Vice President of Programs since 2023, and Kristine has been the primary coordinator of the Little Rose Show at our general meetings.
We look forward to Robert’s presentation and hope to gather lots of useful information about planning and creating a new rose garden in our yards. It should be a lively and animated presentation!
We will have a Consulting Rosarian’s Corner this month.
