March - Monthly Meeting & Potluck

Potluck Feast At SDRS March Monthly Meeting!

Each March and October, we enjoy a special celebration with our traditional potluck meal before our monthly meeting. Everyone contributes their favorite dish and we all sit around tables and enjoy the feast and each other’s company. So before our March meeting, please plan to bring your favorite dish (homemade is best!) based on the first letter of your last name according to the chart below.
Main Dish G—P
Side dish/Salad A—F
Dessert Q—Z
Please bring a dish large enough to feed 8 persons. Also please bring serving utensils and your own plates, napkins and utensils.

Our monthly meeting and biannual potluck for March will take place on Monday, March 17th starting with our potluck at 6:00p.m. followed by our speaker’s presentation at 7:00p.m. We are so fortunate to have renowned rosarian John Bagnasco be our speaker at this month’s meeting.

John is a graduate of Michigan State University with a major in Horticultural Marketing and a Minor in Accounting. He is a writer and host for the Garden America Radio Show, which you can find at www.gardenamerica.com. He has worked extensively with Save the Roses! Organization and has actively hosted and participated in live and silent auctions of rare roses. John Bagnasco’s Power Point presentation, “Roses Around The World…the Universal Proposition of Saving Rose Varieties in the 21st Century”, will highlight the global efforts to preserve rare and historic roses. His talk will feature stunning photographs from his 2023 journey to the magnificent rose gardens of Belgium and Germany, showcasing the beauty and diversity of roses across Europe. As a dedicated member of the San Diego Rose Society, John will also share insights into the preservation work led by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS), emphasizing the importance of protecting rose heritage for future generations. His presentation will provide a glimpse into ongoing conservation initiatives and serve as a valuable preview of the WFRS meeting set to take place in San Diego in 2027. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for worldwide collaboration in rose preservation.

Prior to this month’s meeting, there will be another silent auction of five roses. They are in 1- to 5- gallon containers. Come early before the meeting starts and place your bids for these wonderful roses. There will be a sheet of paper in front of each rose with details of the rose along with a photo of the bloom. If you want to bid on a rose, just write your name or the last four digits of your phone number and your bid amount on the sheet of paper. Each bid must increase by at least one dollar from the last bid. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can give your name and your highest bid to a fellow member who would be attending and that person can bid for you. This is a fun and competitive event! Come and join in and take home a special rose!
